Sundays are great, but they go fast. There's barely enough time to grab a coffee before everyone's heading home. Real connection takes more than 20 minutes in a lobby, and this weekend is built for exactly that.
Three days in the mountains with nowhere to be. The kind of time where conversations actually finish, where you learn something about the guy next to you on a trail you'd never find out on a Sunday morning. Jokes get told, stories come out, and by the time you're sitting under a sky full of stars on the last night, you'll wonder why you don't do this every year.
We're heading to Willow Rock Campground in Bow Valley Provincial Park for three days of hiking, good food, and fresh air. Teen sons are welcome. Wives have already been notified.
Each day includes a hike, with two options: a more accessible trail along Ribbon Creek, and a longer climb up to the Mt. Kidd Fire Lookout for those who want the elevation. Plenty of downtime around the fire in between, with card games, board games, and no shortage of snacks.
The Shanklands and MacNeils have reserved sites 90 and 91. Book your own site at the same campground to join the group.
Dates: June 19 (evening arrival) to June 21
Location: Willow Rock Campground, Bow Valley Provincial Park
Can't make the full weekend? You're welcome to come for a day.
Pack: hiking boots, a daypack, layers for all weather, a rain jacket, water bottle, toiletries, an axe or hatchet. Bring a Bible, a book, and your favourite card or board games.
